It can be difficult to pinpoint exactly what attracts in a photograph. It could be the subject matter, editorial or compositional nature, colour, sobriety or joyfulness portrayed. Even in family snapshots, there are pictures we consider to be better than others. Not just for technical or nostalgic reasons, but for that certain something, a spark we react to. We see a likeness deeper than portrait and closer to a glint of personality.
